Devanie’s passion for clay started while working on her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Her husband purchased her first throwing class at The Potters Guild as a birthday present. Throwing was a big challenge. She lost and overworked everything she made. The pursuit of mastering the process became an obsession. Today it has become a great joy for her to work in clay.

Devanie has lived the homegrown, handmade farm-to-table lifestyle all her life. These ideals were influenced by her mother and grandmothers. The craftsmen style and humble forms from the 30s and 40s are incorporated into her functional designs including pie pans, mugs, platters, ribbon and belly pitchers. She loves and is honored by the idea that people will enjoy their daily morning beverage in a cup that is handmade by her hands.
