Clay Preston Woodworks
After retiring from a career in sustainable architecture, Clay Preston turned his creative focus to woodturning. He lives in Decatur with his wife of 46 years, who is also a potter. Clay transforms locally sourced wood from trees that have already been removed, giving new life to materials that might otherwise go to waste. Working primarily with trees from Decatur and Avondale Estates, he creates pieces from a rich variety of native woods, including maple, cherry, poplar, sweet gum, beech, magnolia, mulberry, and elm. Each piece celebrates the unique character and natural beauty of the wood, honoring both craftsmanship and sustainability.
